いしょく たりて れいせつを しる。
의식이 족해야 예절을 안다.
Only when basic needs for living are met can people spare the effort to be polite.
I came across this Japanese saying today when I was searching for something related.
Perhaps you are familiar with this:
Only when certain needs are met can you move forward to the next thing. When you are so hungry that you can’t think straight anymore, you probably won’t pay much attention to the person who just scratched your car. Yep. That’s how it is. So take it easy.
I believe that if we would be able to transfer our consciousness into robots, basic human needs would disppear and with them a bunch of other ego-related problems. If you are a robot, you don’t need to defecate, you don’t have sexual desires, you don’t get hungry, you don’t feel pain etc. The only reason humans cause problems upon themselves and others is because of their fears. The fear of pain and the fear of dying are probably the most prevalent ones. If fear disappears, you have no reason to act like a crazy fear-driven monkey. As a robot, that might be possible.
