We live in a greedy little world

That teaches every little boy and girl
To earn as much as they can possibly
Then turn around and spend it foolishly

We’ve created us a credit card mess
We spend the money that we don’t possess
Our religion is to go and blow it all
So it’s shopping every Sunday at the mall

When you’re broke, go and get a loan
Take out another mortgage on your home
Consolidate so you can afford
To go and spend some more when you get bored

I’m sure most of you know this song. I love it! Not just because of the lyrics, but also because of its instrumental. I love strings *-*

Anyway, I want to talk about some of this stuff on a deeper level, so here we go.

Personally, I’ve always been inclined to spend and waste as little as possible. Money, food, electricity, water, tissues, just anything. I’m just naturally frugal and somewhat drawn to minimalism in a way. When I was living with my family back then, I really couldn’t stand it when I saw my brother using like three whole tissues to blow his nose ONCE! Three tissues for blowing your nose once?! So basically, one got used and the other two were just thrown away perfectly clean. Come on, maaan?! His way of thinking is this: It’s there anyway, so why not use it?

Yeah, I mean, sure. But the less everyone uses, the less will be produced, you know? If no one buys a product, they will stop producing it, thus saving some resources. So I’m not gonna run around wasting stuff, just because “it’s there anyway” smh! lol.

Also, people not cleaning up the entire plate when eating bugs me every time I see it lol. Me, I never leave a single rice grain on my plate lol. And if there is some more left, I eat it the next day or something. But some people just leave huge chunks of food on their plate every time they eat and then throw it away! Nooooo!

We’ve created us a credit card mess
When I was younger, I never understood the whole credit card thing or how or why some people had more than one bank account and more than one credit or debit card. Simply because I grew up seeing my parents always have only one. Maybe also because having so many credit cards is mostly an American thing, I guess? Like I had always thought that you have to have a bank account with money in it to be able to spend money and if there is no money in your account, you can’t buy stuff. So credit cards had always been a mystery to me lol. Like, you don’t have an account nor money, but you still can buy stuff with a card?? How??? lol. You see, no one teaches you the important shit in school!

But now I understand the mechanics and know that some people have multiple credit or debit cards and don’t even know what they’re spending their money on! Like they buy and subscribe to so many things that they lose track! When I first realized this, I was kinda shocked lol. The young I, who used to live in her own little bubble keeping track of her expenses not knowing that there were also a lot of people who weren’t inclined to be frugal.

We spend the money that we don’t possess
Hehe. Well, technically, we don’t “possess” anything. Nothing is really yours. Not your money, not your house, not your “identity”, not even your body and your thoughts. It’s just borrowed. Consciousness lent it to you. And at the latest, when your physical existence as the human being you are now comes to an end, all your “possessions” will become worthless, too. Ultimately, money, like everything (see what I did here?) else, is just a construct of the human mind. If we didn’t assign any value to it, it wouldn’t have any.

Consolidate so you can afford to go and spend some more when you get bored
Yes, yes. Society wants to keep you in the rat race. You know, live a normal life, don’t think out of the box, get a normal education, get a normal job, work your ass off and stuff money down the throats of the people who exploit you. And then you wonder why you aren’t happy. Got a good job, got money, got a nice family, got some friends, but still aren’t happy. Maybe got none of it, but still aren’t happy, because you think you “have to” get all of that to be happy. No man, you don’t HAVE TO do anything. Just because society tells you something, doesn’t mean you have to do it. If every brainwashed member of society jumped off a cliff, would you do the same? Fucking no. So you also don’t HAVE TO earn a shitload of money. You can, if you want, but you don’t have to. You don’t HAVE TO get married. You can, if you want, but you don’t have to.

You get the point, right? Please don’t fall into the trap of thinking society knows what makes you happy better than you yourself do.
